Sylvia is a Bristol-based performance maker, originally from Germany. She creates Live work for theatres, galleries and public space. Her performances have been presented extensively in the UK and Europe, such as at SPILL Festival at the Barbican London, Arnolfini and Mayfest Bristol, The Basement in Brighton, Grimmuseum Berlin (Germany), EPAF at Centre For Contemporary Arts Warsaw (Poland), Factoria de Fuegos in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain) and Inbetween Time Festival Bristol.
Her projects often revolve around the places and times we inhabit mentally, physically and in our imagination. Consciousness, memory, personal histories and risk are reoccurring themes and focus points. She is interested in the Live moment of performance and likes to play with the presence of an audience, whilst applying simple methods for creating places, situations and interactions in space.
Sylvia is also the Director and Co-Producer of You and Your Work, an adventurous performance festival in Bristol. Y&YW showcases and commissions risk-taking Live works by early career performance artists whilst striving to engage communities and audiences from diverse backgrounds. Sylvia is a member of Residence, an artist-led organisation creating space for artists to make theatre, performance and Live Art in Bristol.
“a_n review by Mary Paterson on Imagine Me To Be ThereThe skill of Rimat’s performance lies in the way she marries the magic of the theatre with the fantasies of the virtual.
”
Sylvia is open for taking part in short residencies combined with (work-in-progress) showings. She’s available for talks about her artistic practice, pre and post-show discussions and can provide tailored workshops related to her performances.
